A Chicago-area family is giving $100 million to establish an institute at a medical center that seeks to boost efforts to improve health and prevent disease by optimizing the body's own defenses.  The gift will create The Duchossois Family Institute at University of Chicago Medicine. It's from investment business The Duchossois Group Inc.'s Chairman and CEO Craig Duchossois, his wife, Janet, and The Duchossois Family Foundation.

Billionaire Ken Griffin has contributed $20 million to Republican Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner's re-election fund.  Rauner's campaign committee reported the donation from the CEO of the Chicago-based investment firm Citadel on Wednesday. 

Officials of Western Illinois University thanked a Quad Cities couple Thursday for the latest in a long line of gifts. It'll pay for scholarships and promote small businesses and Mexican culture. 

Chance the Rapper is on a mission to better fund education in the state, particularly in Chicago. The musician, who grew up on the south side of the city, has won three Grammys at the young age of 23, making him well-known outside just the hip hop world. He's been using that fame to hold Gov. Bruce Rauner's feet to the fire when it comes to the education funding issue. 

The Art Institute of Chicago is receiving a major gift of contemporary art, including works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns and Jeff Koons.
