The Peoria Downtown Development Corporation (DDC) is seeking a property tax increase for businesses located in the downtown area. The DDC proposal would add $65.00 dollars to the tax bill of a property assessed at $100-thousand.

Our guests this week are Michelle Nielsen Ott from Sculpture Walk Peoria, and Sharon Gramm with the Peoria Riverfront Market. The two groups are working together this year: Peoria Riverfront Market begins tomorrow morning; and Sculpture Walk's opening day celebration begins later in the day, just across the street. The idea is to give residents and visitors a double incentive to visit downtown Peoria.

Perry in Peoria Closed for Main Break

A water main break on Perry Avenue in downtown Peoria has the street closed at Main. An adjacent spot on Main Street is also reduced to one lane. There is also an opening in the road there to handle the water main repair. Workers are on site to make the repair.

 

Peoria city streets workers will also need to repair the road once the repair is complete.

 

But the break has shut off water to some of the area. The lack of water means the Peoria Public Library Main Branch closed at noon.

 

Caterpillar News A Gut Blow to Peoria

 The news Caterpillar is moving its world headquarters to Chicago came as a surprise to most Tuesday. The announcement of the move follows the February, 2015 declaration the company would stay in Peoria. In fact, Caterpillar was planning to expand its world headquarters, taking up 31-acres downtown near the Peoria Riverfront.

Downtown Peoria Hotel Gets New Life

Downtown Peoria is poised to get an additional 320 hotel rooms with the revitalization of The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel. Peoria Public Radio’s Tanya Koonce reports the hotel has been closed for nearly two years.

Caterpillar announces it's staying in Peoria

The world’s largest heavy equipment maker announced plans to build a 31-acre campus in downtown Peoria.  The news comes after Caterpillar considered building options for two-and-a-half years.
