Eastern Bypass Is Focus of Planning Group For 2016

The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission is re-focusing on the Eastern Bypass.  That project would connect Interstate 74 with Illinois Route 6 in the north-east-region of Peoria.  Eric Miller is the Acting Executive Director for the Commission.  He says one main reason is a new federal transportation agreement:

Funding for the regional Eastern Bypass project is included in the state’s six-year infrastructure program.  $2.5 million is programmed to pay for continued engineering work and corridor studies. Denny Kief is a vice president on the Eastern Bypass Board of Directors.  He says the funding is needed to continue efforts to build the Bypass:

Tri-County Commission details top priorities

  Local, state, and federal lawmakers or their aides attended an annual meeting held by the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission yesterday. Larry Whitaker is the Chair of the Tri-County Commission. He says the meeting is an opportunity to update lawmakers on projects, as well as for the commission to get feedback from them: “The other thing that we think that’s important is that the community understand through our legislators the work the commission’s doing.
