An Illinois hospital has partnered with seven EMS providers to test a new app to improve communications.

Illini Concrete Products in Tremont was destroyed yesterday in a fire and subsequent explosions. Peoria Public Radio’s Tanya Koonce reports the fire call came in about 12:30.

Tremont Fire Chief Jim Lonergran says one of the workers discovered the fire. He says by the time they were on-scene, the building furthest from the road was collapsed and two of the buildings were fully involved.

Authorities say fourteen people reported trapped in a north central Illinois restaurant flattened by a reported tornado have been rescued.  The people were trapped inside Grubsteakers restaurant located in the Ogle County city of Rochelle when a tornado swept across the area late Thursday.  

Emergency officials in the Tri-County area are forming a new group to boost information sharing and planning.

Local, state and federal emergency officials responded to a mock terrorist attack on the Illinois River Monday morning. The drill was hosted by the Fondulac Park District Police and U-S Coast Guard. It was designed to test how well different groups work together to respond to an emergency.  Fondulac Park District Police Chief Michael Johnson says the mock attack involved terrorists taking over the Peoria Lock and Dam and taking hostages:

Lawmakers respond to propane shortage

With the state's return to a deep freeze, the governor and several lawmakers are responding to the shortage of propane in Illinois. Although there is enough propane to go around nationwide -- the problem has been getting it to where it's needed most.  Governor Pat Quinn declared a "propane emergency" on Monday. An executive order lets truck drivers avoid fees and taxes usually required to transport propane. For the propane that is available, the cost has skyrocketed. State Senator Dale Righter says he's heard from constituents forced into tough decisions.
