Illinois gets poor marks for cost of doing business in the state

Illinois dropped eleven spots in a national survey of the best places to do business. Business leaders say they're not surprised. IPR’S Amanda Vinicky reports.

The CNBC survey ranks Illinois 37th overall. But the state gets especially poor marks when it comes to the cost of doing business. Illinois comes in at 44th out of 50 states.

Lawsuit filed against proposed Illiana Expressway project

A legal challenge could stall a much touted proposed expressway for Chicago’s southern suburbs. IPR'S Michael Puente reports.

Illinois and Indiana have partnered to build the Illiana Expressway. The east-west corridor is expected to one day connect I-55 in Will County to I-65 in Lake County, Indiana. The goal is to relieve congestion on existing roadways and create jobs. But a federal lawsuit filed yesterday claims the project will destroy natural areas.

IL Lawmakers continue pension talks

Governor Pat Quinn may have rebuffed legislators' efforts at finding a pension solution and cancelled their pay.  But lawmakers key to negotiations are continuing talks anyway.  IPR’s Amanda Vinicky reports: 

When the Governor cut legislators' salaries as a sort of punishment for their not passing a measure to bring down the state's pension costs, he didn't pick and choose. There was no mercy for legislators who had voted for controversial pension plans - including one Quinn had supported - but which didn't fully advance. Nor did he make an exception for the legislators who've attended countless meetings as part of special panels formed by the Governor.

Illinois lawmakers Tuesday rejected Governor Pat Quinn's veto of concealed-carry legislation. As IPR’s Brian Mackey reports, it makes Illinois the last state to let people carry guns in public.
