State higher education board asking for level funding

Illinois' public colleges and universities are making an austere budget request to the state. The Board of Higher Education will ask to keep level funding for the coming fiscal year. Harry Berman is the interim Executive Director. He says it's less than what is needed:

District 150 responds to concern about principal placed on leave amid investigation

Peoria School District 150 Superintendent Grenita Lathan says placing a principal on administrative leave is not a disciplinary action.  Charter Oak Primary Principal John Wetterauer is on leave following the discovery of potential cheating on state testing for special education students.  Superintendent Grenita Lathan says in a letter that administrative leave is necessary to ensure an unbiased investigation.

Illinois education board asks for more funding

A week after Governor Pat Quinn suggested lawmakers slash the state's education budget -- Illinois school officials are asking them to instead increase spending on schools. IPR’s Brian Mackey has more: 

 The chairman of the Illinois State Board of Education, Gery Chico, says public schools can't afford any more cuts. He says they're already eliminating extracurricular activities, getting rid of staff, and shortening the school day.
