An Illinois congressman says he plans to introduce legislation to name a post office after a U.S. Navy SEAL from Illinois who was killed in Yemen.

  The Illinois House of Representatives took a moment of silence Wednesday in honor of Chief Special Warfare Operator William “Ryan” Owens of Peoria.

Owens was killed during a raid on an al-Qaida in Yemen on January 28th. 73rd District State Representative Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) made the request for a moment of silence. Here’s what he said on the floor of the Illinois House of Representative before making the request:

The Navy Seal killed during the January 28th raid on al-Qaida in Yemen was 36-year-old chief petty officer, William "Ryan" Owens of Peoria. That’s according to the Defense Department. Owens died of wounds sustained in the Saturday raid. He was a 1998 graduate of Illinois Valley Central. Congresswoman Cheri Bustos says our nation owes Owens and his family deepest and heartfelt gratitude.
