Gov. Bruce Rauner's administration has delivered a report on reconstruction of the Quincy veterans' home beset by deadly Legionnaires' disease.

Gov. Bruce Rauner's administration says it will hire architectural and design teams by summer to redevelop the Quincy veterans' home campus hit by a Legionnaires' disease crisis.

Illinois and federal health officials are seeking penalties totaling over $100,000 from a Chicago nursing home after five residents overdosed on heroin inside the facility in February.  The residents of Continental Nursing & Rehabilitation Center were hospitalized and recovered. 

Many elderly and disabled people who live in nursing homes need a lot more help taking care of their teeth.

Advocates for senior citizens and people with disabilities are assessing how action today by the Republican governor affects services they say they depend on.  Early this year, Gov. Bruce Rauner unveiled a plan to save money, by making it harder for the elderly and disabled individuals to qualify for government aid.

Gov. Bruce Rauner has cut back on institutional care available to seniors.   The Governor used an amendatory veto to reduce the cost of the measure aimed at protecting people who get institutional or at-home care while officials develop a new way of measuring need. 

Heddington Oaks hires new administrator

The County has appointed a new administrator for Heddington Oaks nursing home. Christy Delaware has been serving as the interim administrator since March, after the previous administrator Matt Nieukirk resigned. 

Delaware has been a director of nursing in the industry for more than a decade, but she calls herself "a nurse to the core."

“What I love about Peoria County is that we do provide a service for those residents that a lot of time have difficulty finding a home to take them in,” Delaware told WCBU during an interview last month.
