More announcements expected in the race for Illinois Gov.

Last week, Congressman Aaron Schock announced that he will seek re-election rather than run for Governor. Expect more announcements in coming months. But first, incumbent officials have to make their decisions. IPR’s Amanda Vinicky reports.

Plenty of posturing and fundraising has gone on as candidates interested in being the states' chief executive look ahead to the 2014 elections. But it's like dominos. A lot of politicians' decisions are based on someone else's.

Attorney General staying mum on whether she'll run for governor

Attorney General Lisa Madigan is maintaining her silence about whether she'll run for governor of Illinois next year. Governor Pat Quinn plans to run for re-election, though last week a New York Times story reported he's the second-least popular governor in the country. Madigan refused to comment on Quinn in an exchange with reporters.

Online gambling measure considered

 The latest version of a plan to give Illinois more casinos also bets on a type of wagering currently not allowed at all: Internet gambling. But as Amanda Vinicky reports ... the Governor's not interested in playing.Governor Pat Quinn has already rejected several plans that would make way for five more casinos in Illinois. But he seems to have come around to the idea ... even mentioning it in his last, major budget address. A new version of a gambling package seeks to assuage the governor's regulatory and ethical concerns.

Legislation to expand gambling the General Assembly approved nearly two years ago is finally dead. As IPR's Amanda Vinicky reports, Governor Pat Quinn vetoed a measure that would have given Illinois five new casinos.

When Governor Quinn gives his annual budget address later this week, he's expected to highlight Illinois' plethora financial problems. Which is what frustrates supporters of gambling expansion, who say more casinos would be like hitting the jackpot.
