Peoria International Airport is encouraging people to plan ahead for road construction. Everett McKinley Dirksen Parkway from Middle Road into the airport and partially around the ring of the airport’s main parking area is under construction. People are asked to use caution. Director of Airports Gene Olson says the familiar route to your parking spot will look different. Those visiting the airport will want to look for changed traffic patterns near and in the parking lots. The project is expected to be complete in the Spring.
An Honor Flight takes off from Peoria International Airport early Tuesday morning. 22 World War II veterans, 37 from the Korean War and seven terminally ill Vietnam Vets are making the journey to the Memorial in Washington D.C.
Spring break helped make March a record setting month for Peoria’s General Wayne Downing International Airport. The airport saw 60,750 passengers pass through the gates, the largest monthly number on record.
The Peoria International Airport now has 350 new parking spaces. The Airport Authority demolished an old storage building to make room for the additional parking just west of the terminal building. Airport Director Gene Olson says the space will make parking easier for passengers as the holiday travel season ramps up. The new parking is in addition to 100 spaces the airport built last year.
The Peoria International Airport broke an all-time monthly record for passengers using the facility. More than 56-thousand people flew in and out of Peoria in March. Airport Director Gene Olson says the record is due to its Punta Gorda and Atlanta flights as well as its connecting destinations on Delta Airlines. The last all-time monthly record was set in June 2008 when there were slightly more than 55-thousand passengers. Olson says passenger activity is up more than eight-and-a-half percent so far over last year.
