  A vigil for Eddie Russell Jr. outside Peoria City Hall preceded the regular council meeting. Many who proceeded into the meeting took a knee during the pledge of allegiance.

Peoria Public High Schools were on lockdown this afternoon after reports of a gun at the career center. Students from the other three high schools come and go from Woodruff Career and Technical Center.

Preliminary autopsy results show a woman found inside a burning home over the weekend died of strangulation.

Peoria Police are asking for help in locating the man suspected of a shooting early Sunday morning. Delrick Rutherford is suspected in a shooting that happened in the 2100 block of North Underhill about 2:45 a.m.

Peoria Police are reminding people of the city’s loud music ordinance in an effort to get out the information ahead of an upcoming enforcement campaign. The ordinance allows police to impound a vehicle on a first offense of playing music that can be heard from a distance of 75 feet or more. The driver can be issued a citation, have their vehicle towed and incur a number of related fees.  The ticket for a second offense is $275 and all subsequent offenses are $525. The citation does not include administrative fees, towing and storage.

The Peoria Police Department is taking a “wait and see” approach before formulating a policy on body cameras.

The Peoria Police Department will begin a pilot program to evaluate the use of body cameras on officers. Three officers on different shifts will use the cameras beginning March 20.

Project manager Denise Backes told Peoria City Council on Tues. that other cities using cameras have seen increased officer performance among other benefits.

One of the two males suspected of robbing Commerce Bank on North Knoxville in Peoria last week has been identified.  Peoria Police say 28 year-old Tarius D. Ganaway is wanted for armed robbery.

Peoria Police are asking for help in find the suspects of two bank robberies Wednesday evening. The first happened at Commerce Bank on North Knoxville about 4 o’clock, and included 2 armed men.

Eighty-six people have been shot in Peoria this year. Now Peoria Police are using a tool that will help them solve more gun crime. The National Integrated Ballistic Information System has been in place for about 6-weeks.

The Peoria Police Department negotiated a stand off today that involved a man with a gun near Glen Oak School at Wisconsin and Republic. 

A newspaper report says a man who's serving 15 years in prison for running an underage prostitution operation did so out of an apartment obtained with the help of the Peoria Police Department.

PPD Warns of Repeat Phone Scam

  The Peoria Police Department reports a phone scam being repeated in the area. The caller claims to be employed by, or affiliated with local law enforcement and claims a warrant has been issued for the receiver’s arrest. Instructions are then given to withdraw funds, and to send them through electronic transfer in order to avoid arrest. The Peoria Police Department reminds people law enforcement does not utilize such methods. The agency asks people receiving such calls to contact local police with any information.

The Peoria Police Department has a new Assistant Chief. PPD announced Captain Lisa Snow was promoted to Assistant Chief Monday. Snow has been with the Peoria Police Department for 25 years. She started in patrol in 1990 and has a Doctorate from the U of I. Assistant Chief Snow and her husband Police Lieutenant Kenneth Snow live in Peoria.

Peoria police say the city saw its tenth homicide so far this year after a death last night.

Peoria police say detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred Wednesday between 1617 and 1619 West Lincoln.

Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert of four rounds fired, a department news release said. Officers found the body of 30-year-old Kamron Causey near a shared-driveway with apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the head  Causey was pronounced dead on scene.

The 15-year old Peoria boy swept away in a rain-swollen creek yesterday has been found. 

Demarcus Jackson was transported to OSF Medical Center in Peoria. Police say Demarcus Jackson was swimming in the creek Sunday afternoon when he was pulled downstream by a strong current. His brother and friend were able to escape the creek. Efforts to find the boy were suspended Sunday night because of high water levels combined with the current. Peoria police said then the search would resume once the creek was safer for firefighters.  But Peoria Police Captain Mike Scally says Jackson was found about 7:30 this morning:

A Peoria High School English teacher has been arrested on charges of sexual abuse.

The 12-year old victim in Monday’s shooting has died. The Peoria County Coroner says Demarcus Payne died Tuesday afternoon. Officers responded to the shooting just before five in the evening at Broadway and McClure.

Peoria police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a shooting victim. The young black male was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the area of Broadway and McClure just before 5:00 p.m. Monday.
