  There were 183 complaint calls and 270 ShotSpotter reports of fireworks in Peoria between July 3rd and 5th. The city deployed 76 percent of its eligible police officers to work during that time. Yet the department issued only eight tickets.

Anti-Violence Rally Draws on Human Relationships

A youth-organized anti-violence event on the Peoria Riverfront today gathered about 100 people. The event was organized by a group consisting largely of 16, 17 and 18-year-old Richwoods High School students and college Freshmen calling themselves the Coalition of Young Minds.

Peoria’s Don’t Shoot Program was introduced to twelve new young men Tuesday night. They were invited to stop shooting and change their lives, or face the maximum possible legal prosecution.

About 100 people attend a Police-Community Relations Committee town hall meeting Tuesday night at the Peoria Civic Center. The Committee, The Peoria Black Chamber of Commerce and the NAACP hosted the conversation with the purpose of a dialogue.
