The Northmoor Road Project poses a new wrinkle for Peoria motorists starting today. Northmoor is closed at Rosemead Drive and the Exposition Gardens entrance. Peoria Public Works Director Scott Reeise says they’re closing the road to construct other underground utilities for a new signalized intersection.

Snow plows are ready to hit the road to handle the ice and snow winter generally offers in the Midwest. Peoria area public works officials, I-DOT and the Illinois State Police are also reminding people to adjust their following distance and awareness behind the wheel the first time mother nature delivers snow and ice.

Peoria Public Works Director Mike Rogers is leaving Peoria to take a new position in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Rogers will fill a newly-created position of Transportation Director. His last day in Peoria is August 26th.

In a statement, Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich thanked Rogers for his years of service. Rogers has served as Public WorkS Director since 2013.  A replacement has not yet been named.


City's debris pickup put on hold due to snow

Debris removal scheduled for Monday due to recent storms will be put on hold.

The City of Peoria says today’s predicted snow accumulation is the cause for the delay.

The City says crews are instead on the streets ready to treat for icy slick locations as calls come in.  The City says tree pickup should resume tomorrow.

Peoria Public Works Department crews worked through the night Monday to clear the city’s primary streets. Tuesday they cleaned up residential roads through evening hours. The Peoria Public Works crews are shifting to alleys and ADA ramps Tuesday night.

Officials with the Illinois Department of Transportation, State Police and city of Peoria are reminding motorists to drive safely as winter weather approaches.

The Main and University intersection in Peoria could see initial redesign changes by the end of the year. Peoria Public Radio’s Tanya Koonce reports a water-main break last month created an opportunity:

The first day of summer brought with it a new Public Works Director for the City of Peoria. Mike Rogers has been the Assistant Director of Public Works in San Antonio, Texas and is a Michigan native. He says his priorities include transparency and strategic planning.
