University of Illinois trustees have voted to increase student health insurance premiums for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Gov. Bruce Rauner has signed legislation aimed at combating fraudulent opioid prescriptions by requiring drug prescribers to use a database containing patient prescription histories.

In an effort to increase pharmacy accountability and ensure public safety, Governor Bruce Rauner calls for stronger regulations that oversee pharmacy consultations in Illinois.  The governor says an investigation revealed flaws in the state's current pharmacy system that puts patients at risk.

Lawmakers overwhelmingly oppose a plan to allow pharmacists to prescribe hormonal and oral contraception, but the measure may come back.

IL House passes medical marijuana bill

The Illinois House of Representatives approved the medical use of marijuana Wednesday. It's a milestone marking the first time the House has passed the legislation after years of failed attempts. IPR’s Brian Mackey has more.

The proposal has been introduced year after year, each time a little different to try to win majority support.
