Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says while President Trump made the right call to attack the Assad regime last Friday, he suggests the Commander-in-Chief use more precaution moving forward.

Trump last Wednesday tweeted about Russia with a heads-up on a possible U.S. missile attack on Syria. Durbin says the use of social media could have dire consequences.

 

A congressman representing a large portion of downstate Illinois will be listening closely to President Trump’s State of the Union address tonight.

Downstate Congressman John Shimkus will help negotiate the final version of the Republican tax reform bill.

The president has fired FBI Director James Comey, who was overseeing an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 elections and possible ties to the Trump campaign and top aides.

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin greeted about 500 central Illinois residents at a town hall meeting in Bloomington Friday with the words, "There was good news from Washington today."

Durbin was referring to the failure of the U.S. House to pass a Republican-backed replacement for the Affordable Care Act.

The US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is hearing oral arguments today on the legality of President Trump’s executive order halting immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries.  Illinois’ senior U.S. Senator continues to express his opposition to the action. 

Republican members of Congress from Illinois are divided on President Trump's executive order on refugees and immigrants. So far, three of Illinois' seven Congressional Republicans have issued statements saying they're OK with the president's order.

A University of Illinois senior administrator says President Trump’s recent Executive Order halting immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries could be harmful to the university’s mission.  Executive Vice-President Barb Wilson says the U of I needs what she calls “open doors” to fulfill its mission.

Governor Bruce Rauner said Wednesday he is opposed to a repeal of Obamacare  without a replacement. It’s a rare comment from the governor about national politics.
