SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - An Illinois panel is expected to hear a case against a troubled public housing authority facing allegations of unfair labor.

A housing report shows that more than 1,300 health and safety issues remain at two public housing complexes in southern Illinois.

Illinois political leaders have asked federal housing authorities to find adequate and safe housing for 185 families ordered to relocate from two public housing developments in southern Illinois.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development plans to move residents of the Alexander County Housing Authority properties in May due to concerns such as poor heating and mold.
Federal housing officials said there was no plan to provide new housing and that residents would be given vouchers and have their moving expenses paid.

Taft Homes project hits a snag

It appears the Peoria Housing Authority’s preferred method of funding the Taft Homes project is no longer an option. The authority’s administration gave an update on the progress of the development during a taskforce meeting.

Officials with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development say they will be supportive as the Peoria Housing Authority decides how to re-develop the Taft Homes site. HUD representatives discussed programs the PHA could use to sell or demolish properties and either re-build or find replacement housing for residents.
