Quinn touts state funding for area road projects

The City of Peoria is getting more than $500,000 from the state for area road improvement projects.  Governor Pat Quinn made the announcement during a stop in Peoria Saturday. The funding is part of more than $5 million in the state’s latest Illinois Jobs Now program. Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich says the funding becomes even more important to road building and maintenance amid declining motor-fuel-tax revenues:

Quinn signs bill to create minority-business taskforce

Governor Pat Quinn signed a bill that creates a task force charged with helping minority-owned businesses.  Quinn signed the legislation after addressing the Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce during its annual meeting in East Peoria.  Quinn says the newly-created Workforce Development Task Force will make recommendations to the General Assembly this winter:

Quinn signs higher speed limit bill into law

Drivers will be able to legally go five miles an hour faster on most Illinois highways, beginning in January.  Governor Pat Quinn has signed a new law increasing the speed limit to 70 miles an hour.  IPR’s Amanda Vinicky has more.
