CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - Roger Ebert's film festival this year will include 2016 psychological thriller "Elle" and a film delving into the life of TV icon Norman Lear.

The final slate of six films announced for next month’s Ebertfest in Champaign adds a second silent film to the schedule, and two 2015 movies honored for their performances. The recent releases include ‘Love and Mercy’…..depicting famed Beach Boy Brian Wilson’s battle with mental illness at two periods of his life.   The festival will also show ‘Grandma’ starring Lily Tomlin. 

  CHICAGO (AP) - A theater group in Chicago plans to stage a musical this fall based on the love story of Roger and Chaz Ebert. The Black Ensemble Theater's artistic director, Jackie Taylor, is writing and directing the show about the late Pulitzer Prize-winning film critic and his wife. Taylor says she's drawn to the Eberts' story because it's an "example of strength, tenacity, endurance and love." A life-sized bronze sculpture of Roger Ebert was unveiled Thursday outside the Virginia Theater in Champaign. The artist who designed the statue of the late movie critic sitting between two empty theater seats says the piece took six months to complete.

When filmgoers attend Roger Ebert’s 16th annual film festival in Champaign next spring, they’ll be able to pose with the famous Urbana native. A fundraiser campaign aims to build a life-size sculpture of Ebert, and unveil it as part of the festival in late April, outside the Virginia Theatre.  The bronze tribute to the late Urbana native and longtime Chicago Sun-Times critic places him in the middle of three theater seats, giving the trademark ‘thumbs up.’
