The so-called Neighborhood Safety Act is on track to become law in the final two days of the 99th Illinois General Assembly. A bipartisan coalition of state lawmakers worked on the measure.


Democratic State Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth is a co-sponsor of the bill. Standing alongside local leaders in education, justice, law enforcement and city government Monday morning, Gordon-Booth outlined three areas the measure impacts.

Senate approves creation of health insurance exchange

The Illinois Senate took a key step Thursday toward implementing the Affordable Care Act, also known as "Obamacare." Senators approved the creation of a "health insurance exchange." But as IPR’S Brian Mackey reports, it's still a long way from becoming law. 

A health insurance exchange is at the heart of the Affordable Care Act. It's a marketplace where people who don't otherwise have insurance, like through an employer, are supposed to be able to find it. 

Local contractors hear how to land state business

More than 40 large and small local construction contractors got the chance to hear how they can land state contracts. The Illinois Procurement Technical Assistance Center of Bradley University and State Senator Dave Koehler Monday hosted an outreach program for the area companies.
