County Sues Abbott Laboratories for Drug Addiction

A county in Southern Illinois beset by drug addiction is suing Chicago-area Abbott Laboratories for its alleged role in the opioid epidemic.  The lawsuit claims drug manufacturers Abbott Laboratories and Purdue Pharma knew prescription opioids were addictive - but aggressively marketed them anyway.  St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly filed the lawsuit today.

MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) - Members of Illinois' congressional delegation are appealing to the head of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in support of Scott Air Force Base's bid to host its new facility.

 U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk and other Illinois congressmen wrote a letter to NGA Director Robert Cardillo this week, urging him to select a 182-acre site in St. Clair County as the location of the agency's new $1.6 billion campus. 

Cardillo visited with U.S. Rep. Mike Bost of Illinois' 12th congressional district and others in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.

Health officials confirm this year's first human case of West Nile virus in Illinois.  The Illinois Department of Public Health report that an adolescent girl got sick from the virus in St. Clair County. 

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports the first positive test for West Nile virus this year was found in mosquitoes collected in southern Illinois.
