Illinois lawmakers from both political parties seem to be gathering behind a new school funding plan called the "evidence-based model." Versions of the plan have been filed in both the House and Senate. The House iteration passed out of committee with bipartisan support.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Gov. Bruce Rauner has released figures breaking down how much each Illinois school district would receive next year under his education funding plan. The Illinois State Board of Education says the plan calls for increasing funding by $120 million in the fiscal year that begins July 1.

After touring the shuttered Dwight Correctional Center Wednesday, Senator Jason Barickman says portions have the potential to be used again somehow. The Bloomington Republican says the state first needs time to determine possible functions and cost options for the former women’s facility that closed in early 2013.
