Official: transparency still lacking with FFCI

Focus Forward CI approved its bylaws as it transitions to an independent group.  The region's new economic development effort was originally a part of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission.  Tri-County chair Larry Whitaker was the only no vote against the bylaws.  He says the rules should specifically allow public attendance of FFCI meetings to be more transparent:

Quinn announces Civic Center improvements at Peoria stop

The Peoria Civic Center is getting some new seating in the Carver Arena with $2.6 million from the state. Governor Pat Quinn visited Saturday afternoon to make the capital funding announcement and sign legislation.

Tri-County committee to review executive director

The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission Board is forming a special committee to review and make recommendations regarding the employment of  executive director Terry Kohlbuss.  The decision comes after commission members met in executive session multiple times in recent months.  Many of those meetings lasted over an hour each, and did not include the attendance of Kohlbuss.  A meeting date for the personnel committee has not been set.

Tri-County Commission details top priorities

  Local, state, and federal lawmakers or their aides attended an annual meeting held by the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission yesterday. Larry Whitaker is the Chair of the Tri-County Commission. Area passenger rail hopes hit funding snag

Chances are slim for securing current federal funding to help bring passenger rail service between Peoria and Bloomington/Normal.  Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports:  The Mayors from Peoria and Normal traveled with staff to Washington D.C. in January asking for $4 million to pay for the rail project’s environmental review and pre-engineering costs.  Officials with the federal transit administration are now saying that there’s no federal planning money currently available to help pay for the project.
