Peoria's March unemployment rate rises

The Peoria area has the third largest not seasonally adjusted March unemployment rates in the state. Eight point nine percent of the regional population reported being unemployed. Not seasonally adjusted data is a comparison of the same month the previous year. The rate increased nearly one percent compared to last March.

Area unemployment rate rises to 10.4 percent

  The number of people filing unemployment claims increased nearly half-a-percent from January to February.  The Illinois Department of Employment Security reports the unemployment rate at 10.4 percent in the Peoria Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Area unemployment jumps significantly from December

The number of people filing unemployment claims jumped 1.7 percent from December to January.  TheIllinois Department of Employment Security reports the unemployment rate at ten percent in the Peoria Metropolitan Statistical Area.  That’s also a nearly one-percent increase from the same time last year.  Even so 800 more jobs were added from the same time last year due to gains in Educational-Health Services.  But the manufacturing and Business Service areas saw declines year-to-year.
