Court Street in Downtown Pekin is getting some pedestrian friendly refurbishments. City workers are installing installation of decorative crosswalks  at each intersection between 2nd and 6th streets. Crews are completing the work in the overnight hours as not disrupt business or inconveniencing traffic.

Pekin City Manager Tony Carson says it’s about making everyone feel welcome and safe when walking downtown.

Demolition of Riverfront Village at the foot of Main Street in Peoria will now begin in December at the earliest. It has housed various businesses over the past two decades. The City of Peoria owns the raised structure and plans to develop a park in its place.

The City of Peoria is taking ideas on the future use of the land under the Riverfront Village Platform.

The 2.5 acre parcel of land is to become public space. It’s in the First District, represented by Councilwoman Denise Moore. She says Monday's public input session is an opportunity for people to say what they would like to see in the space.  

City Names New Director of Public Works Department

The City of Peoria is promoting from within to fill the office of public works director.

On Thurs., the Peoria City Administrator announced Scott Reeise will fill the vacant position.

Reeise, a Morton native, was named assistant director of public works in 2015 and is also the city engineer. The Bradley University alum started his career with the City of Peoria as a Civil Engineer in 2004.

Reeise’s public works director appointment is effective August 27th.
