Lock and dam agreement is done, but repairs aren’t immediate

Shipping their harvest on barges through the vast river way system is vital for Midwest farmers.  But many say the system of locks and dams on major rivers is decaying and out of date. House and Senate negotiators in Washington recently reached agreement on a bill to authorize improvements to the river system …and President Obama is expected to sign the measure.  But the changes won’t happen overnight. United Way campaign breaks records

The Heart of Illinois United Way broke records for its 2013 campaign. The campaign raised more than $10.8 million.  That’s a 2.5 percent increase from last year.
